Forecasts for each day's high point and night stop, at their real altitude. Syncs by itself when the app opens online (if older than 2 h); the last forecast stays on the phone for offline use.

Route & POIs

Import GPX Import POIs (JSON/GeoJSON)

Pulls water, springs, campsites, pensions, villages, shops, ruins and peaks near the route. Needs internet; result is kept offline.

Google Sheet POIs

Syncs automatically when the app opens online; the last copy is kept for offline. Sheet must be shared as "Anyone with the link can view".

Hiking

Walk the route in reverse Pace factor 1.00 1.0 = Tobler's hiking function (≈5 km/h on the flat). Heavy packs / hot days: try 0.75–0.85. Breaks aren't included. Off-route warning at 75 m Keep screen on while app is open Planning mode: tap the map to pretend you're there

Group

Share my position with the group

Your position is sent when you have signal, so the others (and the dashboard at home) can see where you are.

Group sharing works when the app is opened from the Trail Buddy server.

Position

Live GPS drains the battery faster. "Locate once" is enough to check progress at a break.

No GPS needed: long-press your blue dot in Google Maps or Apple Maps (or open a compass app), copy the coordinates and paste them here. Decimal, 36°32'26"N style and Google Maps links all work.

Offline maps

The app, route, POIs, stats and profile work fully offline once loaded. Map tiles are cached as you look at them. To be safe, download the tiles along the route while you have Wi-Fi.
